Lilith from the Bible?

I was watching something on the History Channel about a woman named Lilith who's story was taken out of the modern bible. It was said that she was Adams mate before Eve, the story said that Adam demanded to be dominant over Lilith but Lilith asked for them to be equal, God then asked Lilith to return to heaven or she would be punished, she denied him and was forced to go through some odd punishment dealing with babies (forgot that part). Eve was created from Adam and was to be a step below him and to serve him, so my question is why do christians try to sweep this and many other story's from the bible of men being over women under the rug? How can you believe in equality while at the same time worship a God who does not?

On another note why is it christians deny gays the right of marriage on the grounds that god forbids it while at the same time he feels the same about divorce yet nearly half of all couples (christians included) will divorce?

Just a few thoughts i have had for a while.

Because Christianity is a create your own religion type thing, they've taken two totally conflicting belief systems the way they interpret them. The Old Testament, and the New Testament, and have thrown them together into a schizophrenic pick and choose your own religion type thing based on whatever you want it to be, that the church of course (god) approves of.

the extremely some older KJV and NIV bibles have a passage that mentions Lilith as a demon haunting waste places. Isaiah 34:14 greater modern-day bibles have all edited her out. the only different place you come across her is in some extremely misogynist rabbinical writings from approximately 900 to the 1500 advert in spite of the shown fact that in case you seem at Genesis a million you have Adam and Eve created on the comparable time from the comparable stuff, and then in Genesis 2 you have Adam being transported into den, positioned to sleep and Eve being created out of Adams flesh (rib). So i could wager Lilith is Genesis a million and Eve is Genesis 2 after Lilith eloped with the demon or angel or despite. I additionally suspect that Lilith if Lilith have been in Eden she could on no account have tempted Adam with an apple She could have instructed him to get his very own damn dinner as a replace..

Lilith doesnt exist in the bible. The only mention of her comes in the NSRV version, which is widely noted as a terribly inaccurate translation of the bible. the translation is literally "night creature" or "screech owl", this is found in Isaiah 34:14.

Lilith is merely a figure of legend.

The bible does give the hierarchy of the family with the father on the highest position. But it also warns the male to be respectful and loving to his wife. If a man loves and respects his wife he will take her ideas and take the action best suited for her welfare.

Finally, there have been christians that have committed all kinds of sins, we dont claim to be perfect. Just because people commit a sin doesnt mean it should be legal or socially acceptable.

Well I am familiar with that story, but it was never in the Bible, just other early Jewish works.

The Bible has not been altared, contrary to popular myth, and books like this were never "in" the Bible.

As for divorce rates, I am a Christian and I am one thousand percent against divorce.

As for the statistics, I have heard them also. HOwever, you have to remember that almost everybody calls themself a "Christian". Look up divorce rates for church attenders (once a week or more) and you will be shocked how much it drops.

Lilith is not from the Bible, the Hebrew Apocrypha that mentions her didn't make it in.
