It's -5 degrees Fahrenheit right now here in Northern Illinois. It's dangerous to set foot outside. This appalling weather always comes down from Canada. Which raises the question, why does anyone live up there? Or in North Dakota, for that matter? Why do they put up with this?

I am a Canadian, and yes we do get used to this weather. I know that it is rather strange with some of the cold weather you're getting, but some areas can get a lot cooler.
Most Canadians live in climates warmer than Chicago, so we do sympathize with you. Montreal is predictably colder part of the winter, that is a big city, but most of us do not live where your cold air comes from.
But also many of us never experience the heat extremes that Chicago occasionally has. The Canadians who live north of Chicago of course do get both those extremes of cold and heat. There has to be some economic advantage to being there.
