How do I get get my border terrier dog to be more confident?

i just got a rescue dog last week. I can tell she is not confident she hangs her head and her tail is hung low. How do I make her a more confident dog? or is she still adjusting to her new environment? She is a border terrier dog. She was a farm dog and now she is in the
suburbs. She is not used to the loud sounds of the "city".

Time, patience and exposure to the scary things. Have lots of treats on hand, in your pockets so you can treat her quickly when she reacts well. If you are walking her and a loud truck or something goes by and it scares her, pick her up and just stand and let it go by. Put her back down and when she's acting good treat her.Any time she shows confidence to something that has scared her give a good treat, it should be a treat she only gets for confidence building. Have a different treat for other occasions.Good luck, it can be done. :-)

Borders are ***NOT***supposed to carry head & tails HIGH,that's a FAULT in the breed!!!!

A week is NOT long enough for any dog to settle in perfectly;get real.

DO ***NOT****-ING PICK IT UP!!!!
Do NOT REINFORCE***BAD*** BEHAVIOR!!!
Good grief!!!=reesespieces, have you ever even MET a real live dog,let alone TRAINED ONE???

Hi,

I think teach your dog to socialize which will help him gain confidence. Socialization will also help your dog to be relaxed and friendly dog.

If she sees you as a confident leader, she will be more confident.
