Should I get my gaskets (not head gaskets) replaced for $900? This is what Midas is charging.?

They also want to do a oil change, replace thermostat, intake gasket set, and replace oil filter. Are they trying to screw me over because I am a women?

This diagnostic was done back in October and I'm still driving it. I just refill my coolant tank twice a week. It could not be that serious if I'm still driving my car everywhere.

Whoa! There are many different types of gaskets. Chances are all yours are good.

An oil change and filter change is about $20. If your car is not overheating or failing to warm up then the thermostat is fine. Intake gasket set is probably fine too. Without more info it's hard to tell.

Honestly, chances are you've been lied to. Very seldom do mechanics tell the truth to people, especially the vulnerable. At a minimum get two more opinions. Chances are those other two opinions will come up with more random stuff but you can at least ask for details explanations.

No you do not need it, but you do have this option. There is a special formula made for head gaskets when the surfaces of the head and/or block are questionable. It is used on rare occasions as extra insurance against leaks. This is nasty stuff and you don't want to use it unless you're prepared to scrap the motor if it doesn't work. In other words, you or the next guy will go through Hell trying to get a head that was torqued with this stuff apart again.

Engines have alot of gaskets whether your a man or woman, without a specific list I cant tell you but if you made a specific list you could call other shops in your area and ask for quotes
96 olds achiva had a intake gasket concern pays 4 hours to replace and about 150 in parts at a dealship near me that only equals 6 to 7 hundred bucks

No!!! Midas is not the place to take your car for any kind of repair in my opinion. They will try and up sell you on everything under the sun every chance they get.If it were me I would say I think that price sounds really outrageous and that you'd like to get a second opinion, make them put it back together and take it to a reputable repair shop.Yes they are most definitely trying to get over on you.And don't be surprised if they tell you "well we've already got it apart and that'll cost you a lot more for them to put it back together,or we highly recommend that you don't drive this car anywhere until it's repaired."Tell them well that's on you cause I didn't authorize these repairs and if you are gonna stand here and argue with me I'll just call BAR(bureau of automotive repair) and let them handle it.
