My boyfriend wants to go to National Tractor Trailer School in the very near future. He has finally figured out what career he wants :) The only problem is he has a suspended license because of unpaid tickets dating back to when he was 18. Nothing major just a few traffic violations and a speeding ticket (NO DWI's Or DWAI's) I know he should have taken care of it way back then but he was young and dumb. We are contacting a lawyer this week to fix that problem up. My question is, would he get hired or even be able to go to NTTS with those tickets on his license? Thanks all!

All suspensions will need to be lifted & his license must be reinstated & valid before he can enroll in any truck driving school.
Some carriers will not hire a person that has numerous infractions on their Motor Vehicle Report (MVR). So he may or may not have many companies to choose from that will hire him if he is eligible to enroll & get his CDL from the school.
And it's good that you said none of his problems are for DUI/DWI- that is an automatic disqualification to get a job in trucking. (Unless a waiver can be obtained, I think. The regs have changed some since I drove)
He really should call the school and tell them what all his citations & suspensions were for and see if he is eligible to enroll once his license is reinstated & valid before you put out all of that money for an attorney. If they say he is ineligible for a CDL or enrollment in the school, you just wasted a lot of money on an attorney when he could just talk to the DMV or whoever he needs to pay off the citations to to get his license reinstated & all he would be out then is the court costs & fines, plus the reinstatement fee to the DMV to get his license valid again.
I'm going to paste the link for the Federal Motor Carriers Safety Regulations (FMCSR) below. Those regulations are the truckers "bible" when it comes to the laws for persons with a CDL. He needs to become very familiar with the different parts pertaining to health, driver's license requirements, etc if he is going to make it in the trucking industry.
You need to ask the lawyer what he is charging you to "fix". Is he getting them off his record? If not, He can pay the fines without a lawyer. The driving school will take his money for sure. Question is, will a company hire him with a bad driving record. Probably not. He needs to ask about a article 894 and see what the attorney can do about his driving record. Good luck
Tell him to save his money. Sure he can go to the school., but once he's out NO ONE will hire him with that kind of record. The country is in a recession, and lots of truck drivers are looking for work. Why would any company pick your boyfriend when they have hundreds of applicants with spotless records wanting a job.
How old is he now? It would depend on the school and on the company if they let him in or hire him. Each company is different. The company my boyfriend works for now you can have more then 2 moving violations or you cant be hired. I woudld contact the school and ask them what thier policy is.
