Can a breastcollar be used as a breastplate? Is there a difference?

I'm looking at a custom tack website, and I was wondering if a western breastcollar is the same thing as a breastplate, (they come in really fun colors!) or if you can use them the same way, at least for schooling. I don't really even know what the difference is! Please help!

No, they're just different names for the same thing.

Wikipedia says:
"A breastplate (used interchangeably with breastcollar, breaststrap and breastgirth) is a piece of riding equipment used on horses. Its purpose is to keep the saddle or harness from sliding back."

I distinguish them by: Western breast collar English breastplate They both do the same thing. There are different styles.

Breastplates are attached to the saddle and under to the girth fits to the horse. Breastplate are just attached to the saddle. There both used to keep the saddle from sliding back.
