What would be a good dog for me? Or where can I find a long list of dogs with the picture and describing them?

I want a medium sized dog that can be trained.
Preferably the color of a golden retriever, but that doesn't matter that much.
Energetic, but doesn't need more than TWO walks/runs a day.
Can be calm and cuddle.
Not extra hair hanging from face.
Is good with people.
Doesn't shed a ton, or at all.

I don't want a tiny dog, but I couldn't have a big dog. So a medium sized dog..but where could I find a big long list showing with the picture of the dogs? Thanks.

Try taking this test:

http://animal.discovery.com/breedselector/dogselector.do

It will ask you questions regarding size, affection, playfulness, grooming, energy level, exercise, training, etc and will give you a list of dogs that fit you and your lifestyle.

You can then select any breed you find interesting and read about their background, temperament and ratings in all different catagories. :)

Here's a list of the medium sized dog breeds with pictures alongside them: http://www.dogluvers.com/medium-dog-breeds.html

Though I suggest that you just look for a calm young dog in the color you want from the animal shelter. I can't think of any breed like you're describing... maybe you ought to look for a calm golden mix that's on the small side from the humane society.

Here is the best place to find out about dog breeds that you can find in the USA, including rare breeds:
http://www.akc.org/breeds/index.cfm?nav_area=breeds

Remember that next Monday and Tuesday the Westminster Dog Show will be on TV. Here's their website:
http://www.westminsterkennelclub.org/
I love to watch this event every year. You get to see every breed with a description of the breed's characteristics.
Just make sure you notice that they switch from USA to CNBC or MSNBC.

I hope you find your perfect dog. I seem to have imperfect dogs find me, and I love them the more for it!

Check out a flat coat retriever. They are the best dogs! Very trainable. All young dogs need lots of exercise to keep healthy and sane. Dogs are all high energy and if they don't get exercise they can develop behavior problems.

I think a golden retriever is a god dog for you. They are calm indoors and if you take them out they will satay calm and not ruin things. They are very easy to train and they are great with children and other people. Also they make good guard dogs.

Also another dog that might be good for you is the rottweiler, doberman, golden doodle( poodle golden mix).

If you look on http://www.petplace.com/ they have list of dog breeds and they characteristics. Also when looking for a dog you can look on petfinder.com and they have pure breed dogs in rescues near you. They have puppies as well as older ones.

Hope you find they dog you are looking for.

I find Australian Shepherds to be very good dogs,they are loyal,loving and energetic. And would probably risk life and limb to protect their loved ones. But yeah, they are great dogs.I

Info on the breed;
Australian Shepherds are easy going,perpetual puppies that love to play. Courageous,loyal and affectionate,they are excellent children's companions that are great with active children. A devoted friend and guardian, for they are naturally protective. Very lively, agile and attentive they are eager to please,with a sixth sense about what the owner wants. Australian Shepherds are highly intelligent and easy to train. Though aggressive when at work with livestock, the Aussie is gentle with human friends.
Size;
Males should stand 21-23 inches at the shoulder,normally weighing 45-60 lbs.
Females should stand 18-21 inches at the shoulder and normally weigh in at 35-55 lbs.
