Which Sims 2 expansion pack should I get?

I agree; Freetime has the most content and adds a nice extra dimension to the game. I haven't gotten Apartment Life (broke college kid; can't afford it), but it did sound to me to be more of a hassle than anything, though it has Witches and Warlocks which is mildly interesting.
Seasons is cool though, but as people before me have said, it's more or less just for show. Though I do love making my Sims make snow angels...
Regarding the glitches someone else mentioned, the Sims 2 website has patches for all of that stuff that are free to download, and I believe they are up-to-date.

Free time has the most content, and it's kind of cool. Adds a big dimension to gameplay. Seasons is mostly just for show, not a lot of actual content. Apartment life is pretty cool, but I find living in an apartment more annoying than it's worth. Plus, without cheating (which is kind of complicated) you can't even really build your own apt buildings.

Apparently , from what ive heard , and seen, seasons has a ton of glitches, with one of my friends, made her walls flash red, and with my other , all her games stopped working, and they still wont , so i wouldn't do it.
I've never tried free time , heard its pretty good. But I do have apartment life, and I love it!! It totally Rocks, its so easy, even when your playing just one sim, to have a full social meter. The magic part with the swinging bookcases is really fun too!And great new furniture and clothes
So I would suggest Apartment Life!
