Once Microsoft officially ends all support for a particular operating system, you won't be able to receive any new updates for that operating system.

Windows XP is still widely used by very many companies and consumers, so it will be years before Microsoft stops supporting XP.

When they stop updating an OS, the last service pack includes all the updates, so you'd just download the last service pack (once the end of life was announced) and slipstram it into XP. Then, when you installed XP, it would already be updated.

Most probably, you still can download updates or necessary files even after Microsoft stop supporting, but there will be no "new" updates
