Freemasonry is a fraternal organisation that arose from obscure origins in the late 16th to early 17th century. Freemasonry now exists in various forms all over the world, with a membership estimated at around 5 million (including around 480,000 in England, Scotland and Ireland alone, and just under two million in the United States)

George Washington was a Freemason. There is a separate black organization, Prince Hall Masons. Masons are in every part of America, it's not such a mystery.

It would be hard to list everything but to make it short: you can see their influence on the US especially (its formation, culture and future prospects). Look at the one dollar bill. You'll find their symbol on it. It is on most American official documents too. America wouldn't exist without the free masons.

What "SumGuy" said. He's right on. You have to be "sponsored" to become one. My father was one, I didn't want to become one.
