Periods: When is it normal, and what warrants a doctor visit?

I realize that it is normal for a young girl to have an irregular period, but after having it for 2 years, shouldn't it be every month now?

I got my first period about 2 years ago, but I don't usually have it every month. I generally get it every 3 months, and then it lasts 2-3 weeks and is very heavy and makes me miserable. Sometimes its only every 1.5 months or can be 4 months in between. Should I see a doctor, or is it normal to be having periods this irregular?

It may be due to stress or maybe your diet. But I would go see a doctor just in case.

I too have had semi irregular periods, however, yours is more abnormal. I was put on a low dose of birth control to try to make my hormone levels even out. I think that you may benefit from better nutrition and exercise too. Drink plenty of water. Health food stores can sometimes advise you about how to keep from becoming anemic from loss of blood. I would advise you to see a gynecologists and take your mother and let her be in the room with you, no mater what the doctor says keep her in the room with you.

go and see your doctor and ask to be put on the pill.
this way you can control your periods and the only bleed you have is when you have a 7 day break.
it also helps with cramping too.
my periods tend to last 3 days on the pill where they usually lasted 4 or 5..
your periods can also be made different by weight or stress, so this is something to think bout.
hope it works out for you

well, i started having them at 10 and now i'm 18.
my period is very irregular. and i skip months alot.
mine sometimes last for like a week and a half. but you should be fine.
if you feel like there is a problem you probably should see a doctor just to make sure you're okay. but i think you'll be fine.

periods are like that. they are like fingerprints. No 2 are the same. If you are that worried about it, go see a doc. Or tell your mum that your very irregular and get on birth control. That helps, now convincing your mom to put you on bc at the age of however young you are. GL
