Generally not. Mostly because of the quality of the peanuts used to make the less expensive of "off" brands.
The cheaper brands also don't use as many stabilizers to keep the peanut butter from separating, so sometimes you have a layer of oil that separates on top of the jar that you need to stir into it.
To prevent the oil layer from forming, many cheaper brands skim off the excess oil since they don't add the stabilizers to keep it blended in. This is what causes the inability to spread easily and tearing of the bread when you try to spread it since it causes the peanut butter to be stiffer.

The best thing is to just try them and see. Maybe a store brand is just as tasty. You never know until you try.

No. Hubby and I had a huge fight about this one day.
Apparently, dollar store Peanut Butter rips the bread and that's worthy of cussing and getting unreasonably upset.

I doubt it. I don't like off brand peanut butters. Peter Pan is the only one I will buy.
