Surround Sound issues with Xbox 360?

Hey there.

I have 5.1 surround sound in my room, and an optical/digital Monster cable running from my Xbox to the receiver. I get sound if, in the Xbox console, I enable "digital stereo," but that means I lose my precious 5.1 (as stereo only means left and right channel). When I enable Digital 5.1 Surround, or Digital 5.1 Surround with WMA, I lose all subwoofer. I love my sub. It's a beast.

So, you see my issue. I've had to make the choice between awesome and accurate sound, or gut-busting subwoofer that make children cry. I would no longer have to make this decision.

Does anyone have a solution?

Well I have never hadthis problem, but I do own an Xbox 360 and have 5.1 surround. I think your problem may rely in many different sources.

(Im assuming you're using an HD/AV component cable) Try a friends cable, it may be the optical lasers problem. But that is unlikely but worth a try.

My main thought is that on the input you have the Xbox (optical) assigned to has the LFE (Low Frequency Effect aka. Subwoofer) turned off or disabled. Make sure that on this input, you have the LFE function turned on. Also make sure that the rest of your speakers are set to "Small" this will send ALL the bass to your sub.

If all else fails, try changing inputs for the optical cable, If may be a fault in the reciever. And try other games of yours too, im sure you already have however.

IF NONE if this helps, you can always run your xbox in stereo, and use a Dolby Pro Logic II decoder (built into almost every reciever), this does a great job of simulating a 5.1 system from a Stereo source. I hope this helps.

Well to tell you the truth... there is no such thing as a "good" home theater system under $200, especially for a room that large. Anything you buy for around that price will only bring about disappointment. If you want "good" quality system that will serve basic needs but will also be reliable.... you would want to invest around $1500 to $2000 for a home theater. All of which can be hooked up to your Xbox. If you have more questions, just email me. I have owned a home theater company. Good luck and Happy T-day
