i hate to be the bearer of bad news but it is time to have it rebuilt or look for a replacement, as far as flushing it your self goes you can drop the trans pan and change the filter but this does not get all of the fluid out of the trans in order to flush it correctly you need to take in to a shop that offers this service this will not fix you problem at this time, when you replace or have it rebuilt you should have the fluid flushed every 30,000 to 50,000 miles. good luck

flushing it will only empty your wallet. it sounds like you lost the forward clutch. on a '77 that should be a thm 350 transmission.

i would,nt recommend anyone to get a transmission flushed but that,s up to you. try changing the fluid and filter.
