My concordance says that the Greek word Iesous is of Hebrew origin from the word Jehoshua, but those two words don't seem to come from the same root. Iesous looks and sounds like son of Zeus, what am I missing here?

First, Zeus in Greek is pronounced Zefs, not Zoos. (Regardless of the pronunciation guides in some Christian lexicons. Ask any Greek.)
The Greek alphabet is not equipped to properly represent certain sounds. It is impossible to write Yehoshua in Greek. No Greek word can begin with the sound "ye", so they changed it to "Ie." Greek cannot have an H sound in the middle of a word. So they had to leave out that syllable. Greek has no way to represent the "SH" sound, so they changed it to an S. Finally, they added an S to the end to make it operate as a masculine Greek noun. (Most masculine Greek nouns end in os.)
So Yehoshua became Iesous.

First, you may want to listen to the girl who commented saying she is Greek. Secondly, there are many many things that we have all been taught that are wrong. The true history of many things have been hidden from us for a very long time. Until technology started booming, it was more difficult to find true history. Our Savior name IS very important as well as the Father s name. Regardless if Greek never had certain letters to translate the original name does not matter. My name would not change if I went to a country that didn t speak English. Like China or Israel or Russia or anywhere, my name would stay exactly what it is. It would be on my passport as it is. In biblical times and even today, names had/have meaning. There IS only one name given under heaven. That one name means Yah is salvation. Yahshua. Yahweh is the Father s name. All these people saying it is a cult or that it is wrong or that He doesn t care what name you call him, they are blind. We have all been deceived and it s time to see the truth! The enemy has done a very good job and trying to confuse and hide many things from us. He is set on destroying Yahweh commandments because His commandments bring life. The enemy only wants to steal, kill and destroy. This generation has been under severe spiritual blindness but many are waking up and understanding the truth. The son of zeus= Iesous...

It amazes me that Christians are the only people who don't refer to their own savior by his name but rather by a transliterated name. Sad. Muslims and Buddhist would laugh at the idea. Also Yeshua's name has literal meaning, every single letter, but the name Iesous has no meaning in the Greek & the name Jesus has no literal meaning in the English. Sad. Christians, once told this, simply don't care. Sad. They claim to receive him thru a false name but reject him by his true name.
When King Josiah found the scriptures & read them and learned that he and all of Israel had not been following the true and living God & were worshipping idols, he rent his clothes and upon reading the scriptures to the people, they all wept & repented and tore down the high places built for the worship of idols. He did not dare continue in the error of his forefathers once he discovered the truth. Even the Pharisees mistook Yeshua as an crazy blaspheming false teacher and we're blinded by their traditions.
