what is the ideal weight for a mini dauchund?

i have a mini dauchund and was wondering what the ideal weight would be for her because i think she might be overweight, she is 9 months old.

the breed standard calls for them to be under 12 pds at 1 year of age.

However some dachshunds do not fit the breed standard.

Run you hand along your dog's ribcage.. you should be able to feel the ribs under a fine layer of fat, but not be able to see them.

If you cant feel your dog's ribs.. then she's overweight.

If she is a true mini at 9 months she is probably weighing about 8 pounds. If she is weighing more it does NOT mean she is overweight.

It could just mean she is a tweenie (between a mini and a standard) or even a standard.

Not every Dachshund that comes from a Mini Dachshund parentage is a mini. Most of the time yes, but sometimes they are smaller or larger.

It just happens.

For a full grown dachshund, a god weight for them to be is about 8 pounds. Since when they are nine months old they are almost full grown, A good weight could be 7 or 8 pounds :-)

Have fun with your doxie!!!

they should weigh 8 to 10 pounds. Be careful not to get them overweight, they could get diabetes very easily, Especially with scottie dogs
