If I buy one of the atom laptops, how do I install software to it without a cd/dvd drive?
Do i have to buy a usb cd/dvd drive? or is there some way to connect the atom to a desktop?

You can't. Unless you want to pirate software, but that is illegal. Copying files from a disk and then putting in a USB drive won't work.
You might have to have another computer and make all the files and the setup in an ISO file then put it in a USB drive. Make sure USB drive has enough space to put your ISO in there.
Also, Intel Atom processors SUCK! Get a laptop with a Intel Core 2 Duo processors.

because of the size of the atom laptops they can not fit a dvd/cd drive so you would have to buy an external dvd cd drive in order to install software. newegg.com and other online sites have external usb dvd/cd drives for good prices i find it cheaper to buy online its up to you where you buy it but shop around theres alot of good deals out there. but buying an external dvd/cd drive is basicly your only option unless you download it online or make an iso of each cd and put it on thumb drive and transfer it to the atom pc wich can take longer than needed

I use a full laptop but ultraportable so no CD/DVD, i just copy the install cd's or download to a USb stick and install from there.
you could also share a desktops DVD over the net but I found that to be more hassle than its worth.
Usually just download stuff these days.

Copy software to a USB pen drive on another computer
OR
Get an external USB CD/DVD drive
OR

If you're laptop isnt coming standard with a DVD/CD drive I would suggest looking elseware. You will have plenty of problems with no disc drive, and will not be able to install or play any games that require the CD to be in the drive.
Btw. Atom processors SUCK. Stop being cheap and get a 64 bit AMD or Intel.
