Is it OK to set a standard horizontal window air conditioner unit on its side to fit into a casement window?

Is there any reason that this cannot or should not be done?

I do not think so because the condensation or water that is produced is suppose to drain into specific path out of the unit and if you turn it on its side it can send the water into electrical connections and cause a fire...
