I'm trying to update my Sharp Aquos BDHP21U Blu-Ray player, but it is not working. I've made sure that the format of the usb is FAT. The blu ray player reads the stick, but then nothing happens. Any other suggestions.
Also, this is a brand new memory stick.

I got it to work when I used a Mac to download the file instead. Strange.

Go to page 41 & 42 in your owners manual
1.)Insert the USB memory device with the update file into the BD STORAGE/SERVICE terminal on rear of this player.
2.)Press SETUP to display the SETUP MENU screen.
3.)Press UP/DOWN/LEFT/RIGHT arrows to select “SETTINGS”, then press ENTER.
4.)Press UP/DOWN arrows to select “SOFTWARE UPDATE”, then ENTER.
If you already set the password, go to step 6.
5.)Enter the 4-digit number using 0-9.
6.)Press ENTER to start checking data in the USB memory device.
(During the data checking, “Checking” box on screen blinks.)
7.)The current version of this unit software and the version of the update file on the USB memory device are displayed on screen. To update this player software with update file, select “YES”, and press ENTER
If the USB memory device is not properly installed or the correct update file cannot be found on the USB memory device, an error message is displayed. Check the file on the USB memory device, and then reinsert the USB memory device correctly.
8.)Press ENTER to start updating. The screen becomes dark for a while until the update screen can be displayed. Please wait for the update screen to appear. Do not unplug the AC cord.
9.)When the software is successfully updated, a screen is displayed indicating that the update process is completed. If the update has failed, check the file in the USB device and try Software Update again.
10.)Press POWER to turn off the player.
11.)Remove the USB memory device.

I just helped a friend do a Blu-Ray firmware update. 3 help support people walked me through the wrong steps. The third worked with me until we figured it out. Sharp Aquos Model LC-42BD80U, Firmware Version PU12110600. I do not have the step by step, but this will get you on the right path. The firmware update is NOT for the TV, it is for the Blu-Ray. You have to use the Blu-Ray setup menu to do the firmware update, NOT the digital TV setup menu. The USB with the file on it has to be inserted in the USB port on the Blu-Ray player, NOT the Service port for the TV. The download is a .zip file. The firmware update file must be extracted and put on the USB drive. It must be the only file on the drive. One way to make absolutely certain it is the only file on the drive is to format the drive (FAT 32), and then put the extracted file on the drive. The support person said there are (sometimes?) issues with USB drives over 2 GB. Because I had a 2 GB drive available, I used it to do the update and it worked.

There doesn't seem to be any published firmware out there. This is not surprising since it's such an off name brand. I would be surprised if AMTC actually even worries about updating their firmware.
