Echo in a large room?

I have a friend with a very large room that echos very badly, the size of the room is approx 30m long by 12m wide plus 15m high, it has 3 large wooden windows, the floor are hardwood, they have just tried to cover the floor with carpet, but it doesnt seem to make that much if any difference.

The walls are concreate plaster, ceiling is wood both painted with normal household paint.

What can be done to cut down if not eliminate the echo as it is very annoying.

Many thanks

Adding a carpet or rug is a good start. Upholstered furniture will also help. They should add nice heavy drapes to the windows (longer is better), hang some display shelves and paintings (breaking up the flat surface of the walls scatters sound better), put large plants in the corners. Since it is such a large room, they could also look into adding screens or other room dividers, like free-standing bookshelves to inhibit the sound bouncing around the room and off the ceiling.

a sound level could pad the walls with a sound dampening insulation. It costs 40 income line with 4x8 sq.. you want to do some thing similar, yet with more low-priced supplies. the fabric must be mushy and could be maximum useful if it replaced into deep, yet that couldn't required both. as an instance you are able to take a tremendous piles of clothing and organize it on the walls as if to portray people walking, operating, and dancing. in case you line the ceiling with quilts which could be staggering. or you are able to setup a tent interior. One the dimensions of the room. That fabric would not adsorb sound all good, yet when it covers the walls and ceiling, it received't favor to. even with you do, you'll favor to cover at employ 1 / 4 of the echo reflecting floor to have any tremendous result.

Drapes. Furniture. Plants.
Just get lots of soft surfaces in there to absorb the sound and lots of other shapes and angles to redirect the sound.

If you can, use tapestries and drapes. Also there are other sound-proofing things that should reduce the echo.

Good luck!
