Question about shower switch in bathroom tub faucet?
Does any one know what you call the piece that is in the tub, at the handle area where you turn the water on and change the temperature that you push in or pull out to switch from shower to bath? We are moving into a home this week and just discovered that this piece is missing in our Master bathroom.
What is the piece called? Can it be fixed? or do we have to replace the the whole pieces that turns the water on? If it has to be replaced, is it difficult to do?
Thanks for any help you can give, I know nothing about plumbing!

It is called the diverter. If it is part of the faucet, the entire faucet will likely have to be replaced. If it is part of the tub spout, then just the spout need to be replaced.
The only part that usually has to be replaced is the part that the water actually comes out of. You can buy that at the hardware store. If it is a designer faucet you may have to contact a specialty store that handles the brand of faucet you are dealing with. If this is the case take a picture of it before you go so you make sure to get the best match possible.
