In baseball, (MLB) how many runs ahead does a team have to be in the 9th before the closer won't get a save?
I know starting the 8th or 9th the closer is in a save situation when ahead 1 or 2 runs. How many runs ahead are no longer a save?

A closer can get a save in the 9th if his team is ahead by 5 runs--the bases are loaded which would put the tying run on deck. The pitcher can also get a save in the ninth if he has pitched three effective innings and finishes the game.

Anything over a 3 run lead is not a save situation, so long as the tying run isn't on deck. If however a closer comes in with a 4 run lead and 2 men on, that's a save situation because the tying run is now on deck. Same thing if he comes in with the bases loaded and a 5 run lead.
