depends on which animal it is. a lot will just be playful (catch me if you can). most will groom. but then again, most animals dont "flirt" like people do for the simple fact that they mate to reproduce, not for the fun of it. and only "flirt" to test the strength of their potential mate. now almost all animals will show signs of affection and bond with their fellow animals.

It does depend on the animal - certain species have bonding behaviors like nuzzling or grooming or intricate mating rituals. In most cases, though, the first and most important thing is "they smell good." Males and females both give off scent chemicals called pheromones that tell members of the opposite sex certain things about their body, mood, mating capability and so on. (Humans do this too. It's just much subtler and we don't notice a distinctive smell so much as just... "feel a spark" when we're standing close to someone new.) Pheromones are secreted through the skin and are picked up by others' noses, where they're received by the brain and register immediately as some kind of emotional sensation - in the animal world, it usually means, "Hey, big boy, I'm ready to mate!" but it can also convey things about health. Rats, for instance, can tell if their prospective mates have something wrong with them genetically just by scent.

one of my dogs is a big flirt, when she sees a male dog, she rubs her head against him, if they're laying down, she rolls onto her back, to show submission, then moves her head around his paws. she will also let him chase her, she trys everything to get him to chase her. she gives him all the attention, she shows way more of these behaviors w males verses females. while my other dog might be there also, but she pays no attention to him, she gives her attention to people
oh yea, and they're both fixed
