You've got it wrong. The expression is "to nose around". It means: to ask questions of people; to act like a bloodhound. If someone says, "you need to nose around", they mean that, if you want to find something out, you have to go around and ask people who might know the answer, do like a detective does and poke your nose into other people's affairs. In other words, use your nose like a dog does, and snuffle around a bit, and just see what you can find.
