Where can I get safe and free anti-virus, anti spyware, and computer protection software?
I'm strapped for cash and my computer needs some protection. Especially from that virus Antispyware 2008 and other virsus related to it. Does anyone have any good suggestions? I've heard of Superantispyware and Malwarebytes. Never used the first one, and I was told Malwarebytes was pretty good, even if it's only a free trial I'd be able to get.
Can someone also mind telling me the pros and cons of certain programs, especially the ones I've heard of. I don't want to wind up downloading something that could bring more harm to my computer than help.

Avast is great for real time anti-virus protection. Malwarebytes and Superantispyware are two of the best malware/ virus removers. All of these are free at download.com. Use Avast as your AV and download the other two and keep them to do periodical scans. Just don't run scans at the same time of course.
ever get avg, put it this way avg is for idiots who think it is the best when in a couple of days they get infected asking for someone's help on how to remove the infection. avg also doesn't have anti-rootkit which is a big factor when removing virus and rogue. WHILE avast and avira are better than avg they have better detection and prevention from viruses and spyware. i have avast on my laptop and avira on my desktop and neither one has had a virus when i scanned with malwarebytes. Malwarebtes is a excellent program to remove malware. I have used this software many times on my clients computers. i would recommend avast http://avast.com
