Need some help on Horse Vaccs?

I'm completely new to horses and need to write a paper on which vaccinations are absolutely necessary for my area.

I'm in Crosby, Texas, which would be the South East region for those unfamiliar with the state.

I know I definitely need the Coggin's Test, Rabies vacc, Strangles, Tetanus, and Encephalitis.

Anything else I absolutely need or should consider getting given the environment I'm in?

Thanks in advance!

EWT
F/Rhino (! especially considering last yrs EHV-1 outbreak)
Rabies
Potomac
W Nile
Strangles

Only your vet can give you the specifics of what's best for you. Not only is it dependent upon whether your horse travels a lot, or exposed to only a 'closed' herd, etc. Also, if vaccinating once, twice or more per year is smart.

You'll also want to discuss the specifics of manufacturers ie: Merial or Ft. Dodge.

Lastly, the amount of money you have saved for an illness, that might have been avoided by the vaccination compared to the probability of exposure.

It's really not the type of question that can be answered based solely on your location. Sorry.

The 5-way vaccinates for Tetanus, EEE, WEE, Influenza and the Rino. Our horses get it every year. West Nile is a must especially if you have mosquitoes. Our vet said just our main show horses need Strangles and he is usually pretty up to date. Just and FYI I had a mare have a bad reaction to the Strangles vaccination.

West Nile is a must for all horses.
