Is cuttlebone poisonous to humans?

Question

I found a great birdie cake recipe that calls for cuttlebone, and I wanted to eat some too. I just need to make sure I can eat the cake.

It's okay  to eat but it  gives a gritty texture to the baked goods. I sometimes put it in birdy bread..
