i have the old style computer {short and wide} can i sit it up on its side to make it look like the tower {tall and narrow} to help save room on my desk or will this harm my computer

Well the positioning of a computer can help because they can heat fast so turning it can help it stay cool and run fast but the only worry is that when a disk or cd is used that it is very posible that they will scratch so you my want to set it back when they are in use.
Yes and no. As has been mentioned below, when inserting a CD, it can slide out of its designated area and get scratched or mangled. This could help cooling the computer, but I would leave it the way it is. It isn't worth it if you are turning it onto its side every time you take a disc out, then back over every time you put one in. I think it is good the way it is made to be.
