Do you think this check could be a scam?

I am selling my Alto saxophone for $450 on Craig's list.com and I got an offer saying he doesn't have time to come out and look at the Alto saxophone, but he will ship me a certified check by UPS over night. He said once I cash the check he will give to me that he will have a mover come and get the saxophone.

Do you think this is a scam, I don't want to be screwed over. I really need this money for college.

DO NOT accept checks only money orders or cashier's checks, this is a scam, once you get the check, he will invent some excuse to get the money back before the 15 days the check clears the bank and then you will withdraw the money to send it to him and you will owe the bank the $450 plus all other fees and the bank will put a fraud alert in your account.

a common scam. the check will be counterfeit, but you won't know that until much later. tell him the "mover" can hand you cash at time of pickup.

A certified check and offering to let you cash it first sounds legitimate.

Yes you shouldn't generally accept checks on craigslist, only cash.
