I think my budgie is pregnant. How do I tell?

I know that parakeets are technically pregnant, but my parakeet was at my friend's house with her "husband" and my friend said that she heard squawking then squeaks, then she walked into the room and saw the boy sitting on my girl! Now she is a little plumper on her backside, and she is more sensitive to being held. I felt above her vent, on her ventral side(under) and I kinda felt a little ball. Is it possible she might lay an egg soon?

Also, she is approx. 7months old. Is this still safe? I wasn't aiming for her to breed with him, I was just busy, and she wanted my bird over.

First of all, her bird didn't need to be quarantined, because they had been together before, and nothing happened. Second of all, I'm not using him as a stud. Me and my friend planned on breeding them when they were 1 yr. old, not now. Besides, he would have stayed with her the WHOLE time needed to help raise them.

I know that parakeets don't technically get pregnant. I accidentally said are instead of arent.

It sounds like your parakeets have mated. Budgies aren't considered to be pregnant but in breeding mode. It's very possible she may lay an egg soon. However, she is too young to breed. You should wait until she's about 1 year old before breeding. Too many complications can occur if the budgie is too young. One of them is egg binding, which happens when the egg gets stuck and won't come out. That could be fatal. Also, many young birds lay infertile eggs or eggs that aren't well-developed. Don't let her breed again with the male if you want to keep her healthy. Also, make sure she's eating plenty of calcium because egg laying can deplete the budgie's body of calcium, and this can lead to egg binding.

You should never put two birds together with no quarantine measures ...number one.
Number two....there had to be or has to be a nestingbox somewhere in this situation that has made her want to proceed to lay an egg.
Number three....too young for safe breeding...so even if she lays an egg off the perch, do not encourage her to continue by adding a nestbox at all.
Number four....you don't use a male budgie as a stud service even if not intended to. A male needs to be with the female to help raise babies. In this case do not proceed by adding either the male or a nesting box. You need to stop the cycle of egg laying, by giving her nowhere to lay an egg...off the perch laying only now and throw the egg away. There may be a first and second egg and then she will stop if nowhere to lay them.
No nestbox and no nesting materials or large seed dishes or nesting materials on the floor of the cage.
If you were really "too busy"to really know what you were getting into and also seem to lack knowledge here about safe and responsible breeding, then you need to stop this now and give the female budgie time to grow up until her body is ready and her mind capable to raise a family.
There are too many people taking shortcuts and risking budgies lives these days and all for the cuteness of baby budgies. Too much can go wrong and you have already made several bad mistakes. Now is time to step up and stop the process before you end up with trouble you cannot cope with nor have the knowledge or ability to fix.

It is possible. But young birds can become egg bound. This means the egg is stuck inside of her. I have put a link in the source section for you to read. It gives you all the symptoms to watch for. If you see signs of any symptoms you have to take her to an avian vet or she could die.

Also, you really shouldn't expose your bird to other birds. There are types of bird diseases that a bird could have, not show any symptoms of yet still infect your bird. If you bring a new bird into your home you should quarantine it for 30 days before introducing it to your bird.

Most likely she will lay an egg any-day now. What she will do is act very strange ,then look all strained then lay an egg (or perhaps more ,they only lay one egg a day)she will lay between 1-8 eggs with around 4 being the norm. Although 7 months is a little young for a budgie she wont die but try not to let it happen again.

She may be developing eggs. Budgies become sexually mature at 3 or 4 months of age, but the ideal budgie breeding age is 12 months.
