What's the best way to travel with jewelry?

We are going on a cruise on Thursday and I have no clue how to pack my jewelry. While I don't want to take a ton of it, I do want to have a few options for my dinner dresses. I have earrings and necklaces. I don't want them to get tangled, but I want to take them efficiently.

if it doesn't have to be nice, I would put them separately in those little plastic zip lock bags and then together in a little cosmetics pouch or something like that.
