If you murder someone and find out that the person you killed was an off duty cop..?

do you get tried for murder with special circumstances and that gets held up the through the whole trial?? Like even though you didnt know that the person was a cop because they were off duty does that make a difference??

In my country they do very bad things to you if you kill a police man, but if you kill your neighbor not so bad.

Yes. Knowledge that the person was an officer isn't a requirement (in any state I'm aware of). I guess they can justify this by arguing the point that the death of a police officer is such a societal harm that it rates a special circumstance whether the person knew his status or not.

Since murder is bad enough and killing a cop is considered far worse, there aren't a lot of people shedding tears for those who might have legitimately not known the victim was a cop.

i don't know but i think it's f***ed up that we hold some human beings to higher standards than others.....directly to jail for killing a cop, but not for killing a life saving doctor or scientist??? it's a case of the lawmakers showing their nuts.
