I have a black molly that has a white tumor-like thing on the side of his face. He has had it for a couple of months now but it appears to be getting larger and now he is becoming mopey. What do think the cause is and can it be fixed? Thanks for your help.

I can't give a specific diagnosis without more detail as to the appearance of the "tumor", but I can give you a general remedy. Black Mollies are notorious for doing poorly in freshwater, as they are best suited for brackish water. Simply gradually raising the salinity to around 1.005 (you'll need a full range hydrometer to measure this, and marine salt to achieve this) will greatly improve the fish's health, and more likely than not, kill off whatever is on his face. The most common ailments of Mollies kept in freshwater are fungus and parasites, both of which are quite possible in this case.
