I recently started my 6 month old on solids. First I gave him cereal for about a week and a half, and then I started him on fruits. So far he's tried applesauce and bananas. He seems to like them well enough. I was told by the doctor to give him solids, once in the am and once in the pm and continue with his formula in between. I give him Earth's Best 1st foods and one 2.5 oz jar doesn't seem to be enough. He needs 2 jars to be full. My question is how much jarred food should I give him in one sitting? Do I give him 2 jars or should I give him 1 and then some formula? What is your experience with starting your baby's on solids? Thanks!

At this age you offer formula FIRST to avoid him getting full on solids. Solids are only for practice and shouldn't be replacing any of his formula feedings right now.
Offer a bottle and then some solids. You'll probably find he may only eat half a jar to a full jar if he's offered a bottle first.
Well my son was 10lbs at birth but I still waited until 6 months to really go all out w/ the solids. I kept him on his bottles just like I would normally do. My Dr. at the time told me to limit his formula intake but I didn't because I know and have read that formula/milk is what is most important for the first year.
I always started w/ a few ounces of formula about 1/2 hour or hour before so that the baby wasn't starving and he could enjoy the food more. Mine was able to hold his own bottle by then and I'd put it on his tray for him (w/ about 2 oz of water) and also in case he choked and needed to wash anything down.
Mine ate about 1 full jar most of the time. It took a while to work him up to 3 times a day. I used to mix oatmeal w/ almost all of his fruits because it's not as expensive, good for them and it's more filling.
Of course your baby likes bananas, because they are one of the highest sugar fruits there is.. so I wouldn't give 2 jars of them and plus it can plug them up a bit. Applesauce has the opp. effect, I'm sure you know.
You can read all sorts of stuff about how you're supposed to do it but it's best for you to figure it out since every baby is different. As long as the baby gets their formula still then you're good to go. And as long as you're starting out by trying one fruit at a time until you make sure there won't be any allergic reactions.
So to answer your question simply.. If he will eat 2 jars then let him and you'll probably see his formula intake go down just a little.
DO not switch to stage 2 yet...the food is chunkier and thicker and some babies will have problems chewing them before he knows how to chew well, This is what i did In the morning i would mix up some cereal with formula and add pears or peaches in, and along with that i would give him a full jar of veggies...and the same at night, cereal with fruit mixed in and also another jar of veggies, i would wait about a month until you start on stage 2, depending on how well your baby does with chewing.. Good luck!
Depends on how old your baby is. Some babies like a semi solid food before they go to bed then a warm bath. If formula isn't;t enough baby food can help along with solid food , you need to try the baby on what you eat like mash potatoes with very little seasoning mashed up veggies and so forth that will help in between formula. My children eating off the table when they were 10 weeks old along with formula milk wasn't enough still use baby food if you don;t wean to use people food. Doctors say now days not to give them baby food until ? a certain age, babies need other things like fruit veggies meat and in baby food to get them started. hope this helps.
I would give him 1 jar and formula. Until at least a year, formula (or breast milk) is still their primary source of nutrition. He should still be getting all the formula he used to, in addition to whatever solids you're feeding him.
