Assistance with addiction.?

I have a problem with gaming. I allowed it to take me to the brink of suicide. I have closed my account with the online game and am sending the discs to a personal friend for discarding. What are some other ways of moving on. I am older and embarrassed about getting pulled in this far. It fulfilled something it wasn't meant to fulfill.

Gaming is an addiction. I live in Las Vegas, and many peeps have this problem. I know that attending addiction counseling is helpful. They will recommend that you keep a journal and jot down your thoughts and feelings when you feel the urge so that you can recognize the signs. Most likely you have an addictive personality so find something to be addicted too that is positive. For example, exercise is a good alternative to get totally into. If the gaming need is so strong you can't quit, then get into playing video games instead of money games.

Pat your self on the back for be courageous enough to quit. Now, be aware of all the extra time you now have to be "in" life. And, set up a support system that you can use when the urge comes back to game in about 2-3 weeks.

don't worry, i wasted a month of my life on WoW, very bad. the trick is maybe to understand that the game gives you a sense of achievement and importance that is much harder to earn in real life. Just take on a real hobby, like chess or checkers or something.

You need to find out what exactly you are addicted to. Its not the actual game itself, is it a need to communicate with people? You have to talk with someone to find out the true underlying meaning before you can cure any addiction.
