What type of food would you eat if you visited Texas?
My friends from Shanghai are visiting and the food in China is always great. So, what would be a special treat for them?

How about some good, old plain American type food. Cleburne's Cafeteria has a great selection and they can see what they are ordering. It's in the Museum District so you can couple the lunch with some museum hopping. Also, everyone can order different things and share (an acceptable American custom) and it is reasonably priced. Remember they are closed on Saturday and only take cash. A good Bar-B-Que restaurant for sure, along with a Cajun eatery, and of, course, Mexican---try Las Alamedas. Our Gulf Coast seafood is great---take them to Tom's Boat on I-10 near Highway 6 for an informal lunch treat. Try a Brazilian Churrascarria like Fogo de Chao (go at lunch---only $38.00 per person, with the same selection of food.) A brunch at Rio Ranch on Westheimer at Briarpark would be wonderful the ambiance is like that of an elegant Texas Ranch house. The Aquarium or Rain Forest Cafe might be fun as theme type restaurants. Chili's for the standard burgers and fries is a must. Fadi's Mediterranean Grill is also a good, inexpensive choice. The Melting Pot might be a hit. For a gastronomical experience try Mark's American Cuisine (reservations a must) for the icing on the cake! Have fun!

NBA superstar Yao Ming's restaurant in Houston will impress them if you happen to be near there. Yao is from Shanghai.
Photos taken at this restaurant will sincerely impress their friends back home in Shanghai since it is something that all Shanghainese and Chinese people can identify.
Texas is loaded with great food, so everything should be a special treat! I miss authentic Mexican food and real steak.

There are so many wonderful foods to taste in Texas that are not available in China such as real mexican food, a bbq steak, chilie, real ice cream, jello, fruit salad made with whipped cream, how about some Cajin food....

Tex-mex, apple pie, fried chicken, fresh salads, . . .
Most Chinese people have the impression that food in America is extremely unhealthy. I'd take this chance to show them that regional foods (especially Texas!) have distinctive flavors of their own!
Also, ask them what they'd like to try. Perhaps there is something they've heard of and would like to eat.
Good luck and enjoy their visit!
