What are the states chinese dwarf hamsters are allowed in?

I found that you can buy them where i live but am moving and am unsure if they are allowed there since i have read that they are illegal in California without a permit, Is that true? Are they illegal in New York? Or places like that?

It's a hamster...
They're not really considered exotic. They're extremely popular and there'd be no reason to ban them in any state. I'm pretty sure California allows them.

This is not true. many people have them! they are not illegal in California. they are allowed in all states. where did you read that?
