What is a "hold" in a pitcher's stat line?

Middle relievers seem to get the most of them. I have only seen them on stat lines where a pitcher gets a save. Is it holding the other team scoreless while they are in there?

A hold (abbreviated HLD, H or HD) is awarded to a relief pitcher who:

1) enters the game in a save situation; (that is, when all of the following three conditions apply: (a) He appears in relief (i.e., is not the starting pitcher); and (b) He is not the winning pitcher; and (c) He qualifies under one of the following conditions: (i) He enters the game with a lead of no more than three runs and pitches for at least one inning; or (ii) He enters the game, regardless of the count, with the potential tying run either on base, or at bat, or on deck; or (iii) He pitches effectively for at least three innings.), AND;

2) Records at least one out, AND;

3) Leaves the game before it has ended without his team having relinquished the lead at any point and does not record a save.

the line for pitching stats is there to tutor how the pitcher did on the mound. whilst they tutor the hitting stats, they do no longer tutor every physique who have been given valuable or an RBI, they only factor out the precise 2 or 3 adult men, regularly there is somebody who had distinctive hits, distinctive RBI's and/or a house run in a huge situation. The pitcher has in simple terms as plenty danger to be viewed for the precise 2 or 3 who get their hitting stats shown, however the certainty that maximum pitchers are undesirable hitters skill that they are very no longer likely to have adequate hits and RBI's to qualify as between the precise offensive manufacturers for the interest.
