How do I stop various Ad internet explorer pages poping up on my screen?

It's getting really annoying, please help. I have an antivirus and an animalware, which is really good, and I also have pop-up blocker, but these are not pop ups nor a virus, so neither of these software detects it. Even if I don't have an IE page open, these ad pages start appearing on my screen. They look exactly like when I would open IE. What would you suggest I do? And yes I tried changing the privacy setting and restrict those web sites.

Thanks guys, I changed it to Google Chrome and the problem was gone instantly after I made it my primary. I hope it doesn't come up again.
Thanks all.

Yes, you are right, antivirus are not smart enough to catch adwares. Some adware can really be nightmares. Now coming to point...
Are you sure you want only IE and nothing? In that case, update your IE to IE8 (if you havn't done so already). Turn on popup blocker and phishing protection.
I would suggest you to download free antispyware from
www.superantispyware.com/download.html
Install and update and run a full scan.
Hope your problem is solved.
Using mozilla or Google chrome would certainly help you a lot.

There might be the possibility of virus or other spyware in this computer , so you can get rid of this by following these steps .

1 Download and intall the Superantispyware on your computer .
2 Update your Superantispyware
3 Scan your computer for all the pop ups in your computer .
4 Remove all the malwares , found while scanning with the Superantispyware
5 Restart your computer .

you probally have some spyware installed on your computer that prompts these pop-ups every time you log on. Go to control panel in your start up menu and click the icon for add remove programs. Look through the list for programs that you don't need and remove them. If your not sure if you need the program or not then don't eraseit. Find out what it is first. But the program your looking for will probally have the same name as the ad you keep seeing

This is the main page of IE addons: http://www.ieaddons.com/en/

Browse / search form here. There are several ad blockers, some of them are good.

You might have malware also, try Firfox or Chrome and download Malwarebytes and Super Antispyware which together will remove all your malware.
