Are girls required to get buzz cuts in the armed forces?
I know men are. But do they require girls to do the same? I have a feeling they don't.

Absolutely not. Don't let the barbers touch your hair when you first get to basic. Wait until you can get to a beauty parlor at the BX or something. Here is how women can wear their hair in the military: Women are required to put up there hair if it is a certain length according to regulations or the Uniform Cose of Military Justice. Also no loose hairs if you put your hair up. I recommend putting your hair up in a bun and controlling bangs and loose hairs with hair pins or barrettes. Hair pins, clasps, barrettes and pony tail holders must be neutral colors. If you decide to cut your hair before or a ways into BMT, or you currently have short hair, your hair can not be any lower than the BOTTOM of your dress shirt or BDU collar. If I were you I'd make it slightly shorter than the bottom of your collar. If you dye your hair it must be natural looking and the dye must be a natural color. You can not have blond hair and dye it black. Hope this helps.

No, you just tie it in a bun or another authorized hairstyle while in the military. They don't make you go the GI Jane route. In fact, it isn't authorized in the Army (can't speak for other branches) because a "buzzcut" is considered a "faddish" hairstyle if a women does it.

They do not. One of my assistant band teachers was in a National Guard Band and she said that it couldnt be longer than shoulder length and when on duty it has to be put up in a small bun.

No in fact, at least in the Marine Corps, they are not allowed to cut their hair too short.
