Goldwing 84-86 looking to buy, what to look out for?

Morning to all, hubby is looking at buying a goldwing 84-86, what are some things to ask about, like what are common troubles with this bike, how many miles to they tend to go, what I mean is 86,000 miles way to many, most seems to be up in miles, some are 46,000 miles. Any and all info on these bikes in this year range would be great, or sites to look into for sale, we can only seem to locate them on crags list, there has to be others for Michigan. Thanks to all. Can't wait to get ridin:) We will use it for trips, and he'll use it for work I'm sure, lol... How many miles can you get out of the clutch? O and thanks to all for all the Helmet info, he'll come along, guess I can't surprise him with a new one his old one, well it's old.

Really 400,000 plus? Wow never would have even guessed that far. Thanks please keep the info coming. I do know we have more to pick from know that I know that, I'm not affarid to look at the ones with 86,000 mile thanks:)

I have owned 5 goldwings. They will run hundreds of thousands. Really. like 400,000 +

With the GL1200 there were altinater problems. Too long to explain here..something about too small wires that can be replaced. Google it, you will find info.

Nothing at all wrong with the GL1100 ( 82 or older )
Nothing wrong with the 6 cyl motors either. ( after the GL1200 )
Nothing wrong with the GL1000's . ( the origional Super bike )

Your bike will 25-30  years old. so 86K is a really small number. They hot issue at the time was their air suspension and the anti -dive (Torque Reactive Anti-dive Control)
Check the body work for cracks and the usual stuff every used bike and car goes thru
Yes you can surprise him with a new helmet, he'll love it, he has not gotten a new one because he doesn't have a bike, get a matched pair with inter-com and consider upgrading the sound.
