I'm going on a week long camping adventure in a couple of weeks. I need to know what to bring and expect?

I haven't ever gone on week long camping trips since I was little and I went with my parents.
We have the essentials, you know, tent, air mattress, clothes, food, dishes, ect. What else should i be absolutely sure to bring?

Also, we will be staying on the Missouri river in Huntsdale, MO. I was checking out some sites. And there is a possibility of flash floods due to summer heat (July) and thunderstorms. What can I do to protect myself from being washed away as i sleep?? Help!

Sorry for the wrong category, it wasn't getting any hits in Travel.

Tampons. I used to do camping trips with groups of girls, and I always brought a lot of extras... because every single time there was someone getting their period earlier than expected, and they hadn't brought any supplies with them.

Other than that... bring a tarp to lay on the bottom of your tent, keep things away from the sides (waterproof tents are only waterproof if you don't touch the sides) and set up camp on a hill of some sort if you can manage it. And anchor your tank well - maybe check a camping supplies store and see if they have any other suggestions. I'm from Canada, so I don't know what stores you have down there... but I always head over to MEC and see what gear they recommend before going on a trip.

Don't buy everything they suggest, they are in the business of selling things after all, but they can give you some good ideas.

Oh! And get some dry sacs or canoe barrels to pack your stuff in and keep it all dry (they're also a lot easier to hoist into a tree away from any animals).
