What can i do with my depressed budgie?

My budgie Romeo used to be soo happy and cheery, he would even fly out of his cage if I left it open. After his mate Juliet died, he just became so sad. Now, I can leave his cage open hours on end and he doesn't move from his spot. Also, whenever i hold him in my hand(grab him) he squawks until I let him go. Now he's terrified of my hand, and just sits on the highest perch in his cage. He's losing weight and I don't know what to do. Please help me!

I'm thinkg about getting another budgie for him. I have two other budgies, but they bully him so they stay in another cage. Also, he has a mirror and the radio is on all day.

Your budgie is grieving over the death of his companion. That's good that you have a mirror for him and that you keep music on for him to listen to. You mentioned that he's losing weight. Weight loss is a sign of illness in budgies. I would take him to an avain vet to get that checked out. There's a possibility he may not be healthy, and you'd want to catch any illness early on when the vet can still treat it. If you buy another budgie, it may or may not get along with Romeo. You can always buy another budgie and try it out, but if they don't get along, you're responsible for another budgie. Plus, they'll have to be separated. If it does work out, that's great. I'd still get this weight loss checked into.

Do you have a mirror in the cage for him?
Have you tried leaving the radio on for him or the tv?

A friend also might be the best bet but do remember there is always the possibility that the other budgie won't get along with Romeo.

Poor little guy. I wish both of you luck!

Well get a younger Budgie, a female one. Make sure you introduce them slowly, like put the newer one in cage next to his to let them get acquainted then have them meet face to face, see how that goes and if it works out and makes him happy put them in the same cage.

I am so sorry for his little friend passing..You should go get it a new mate..boy or girl..does not matter..he needs a friend ASAP..
That will cheer him up ..unless it is to late..Birds that go into sorrow like you have describe can cause them to die..
You could try a mirror or even one of those fake birds

oh poor thing. have you tried giving it treats? try lots of dif. foods and feed from you hand or its feeder. also, try getting it a new friend. maybe take it to a pet shop, and if they let you, try letting it out with the other birds and see if it makes friend with them, that could work ( O=
