It's BS intended to substantiate the bogus argument of Global Warming, Global Climate Change or The New Ice Age we supposedly entered twenty five years ago.
It is junk science aimed at increasing the power of our politicians over us.

There are lots better reasons to give up smoking than some idiotic, theoretical calculation of a "Carbon Footprint" for something that doesn't even have a foot! Why not ask - what's the carbon footprint of a Blue Whale breathing for a year? I bet it breathes out tonnes of CO2, but that's not a reason to go hunting whales! What's the BS footprint of Al Gore? Now I could break out a harpoon for that ball of blubber! The moral of the story is that anything justified only on the grounds of reducing your "Carbon footprint" is unjustified.
I'm not sure, but when thinking about the total environmental impact, you have to factor in all the trees that are cut down to make the rolling papers and cigarette boxes, as well as the carbon produced by smoking.
