I believe that God's Word is what it says. To bear false witness is to lie. Phillippians 4:8 tells us to dwell on things that are pure, holy, just, honest, etc. If you lie, how is that pure, holy, just, or honest, etc.? Now, this does not mean that you state every fact in every matter, seeing it will not always be to benefit. Stating someone has a zit on their forehead will not always help them, especially if you embarrass them in public. But if they ask, let them know; and don't lie to them to make them feel good, because feelings are misleading. If someone asks, "Am I beautiful?" then answer simply and honestly. Beauty is about character, not always looks. Also, if they are talking about sexual beauty, then state the truth (that is for their husband to know, not me). There are simply ways to answers these questions in honesty, and we know that the truth will set us free. Also see Colossians 3:9; 1 John 2:21; Hebrews 6:18; Revelation 21:8 However, remember that our goal is to achieve what is good. We know that 1 John 1:9 says that God will forgive us when we confess our sins with a humble spirit. Christ is our advocate with the Father when we confess that we have done wrong. This does not give us free range to sin as we please. Romans 6:1-2 says that we should not sin that grace may abound. God forbid! We are dead to sin, and lying is a sin. We must seek to be in harmony with the God of love, and lying is not in harmony with His law of love. Continue to seek the Lord in all truth. May God lead you and direct you in His ways. -barz-
