Will replacing the graphics card on a Wii Delete the saved data.?

Someone that I know had a problem with their wii so they called nintendo support and they said that the graphics card needed to be replaced. I think that he heard them wrong because he said that it nintendo said that ot would erase the data had on his wii like virtual console games, wii ware, etc. I do not know much about the wii but I am pretty computer savvy. This is the same idea of replacing a desktop computer's graphics card and I know it wouldn't erase anything. Am I right? is my friend right?

I think the reason they told you this was because with most repairs to consoles and even some PCs they wipe the entire thing. When I sent my HP laptop into HP to get fixed they told me that they may have to wipe it and revert it to how it came out of the factory. This is probably what they are going to do with the Wii if your friend sends his in, and this is why they told you that it would erase all your data. A good suggestion is to try to back everything up you can onto an SD card before you send it in if your friend does decide to send it in.
