Why does the media portray gays with the effeminate guys?

I already know: Because they do musical theater and WANT to be on tv, but, as a masculine homo, I hate the association. So I guess I'm just whining.

1) It's intellectual laziness- much easier to fall back on a stereotype than to do the hard work and create a three-dimensional character.

2) Gay men are usually added to a show or movie to fulfill the role of "clown"- they are sassy, funny, make sarcastic quips, help the main character (usually female) to dress fierce and get the man of her dreams. Hence they are portrayed as femme, instead of macho guys.

Uhh. So you believe the stereotypes yourself, huh? Well, the thing is the media likes to bunch EVERYONE into only partly true, biased, racists, stupid, yet easy-to-identify (and often times easy to make fun of/mock/judge/hate) stereotypes and cultural identities. It's wrong, and no one-let alone a gay man-should buy into it.

Lol right? Its fun surprising people though!

There should be a reality show about masculine gays.

Well, I know on TV shows they do that so that people can easily differentiate between the gay and straight characters.

i agree with you kinda...not all gay men are feminine and girly. i happen to be friends with a guy who is gay but is hardcore punk, listens to slayer, takes kendo classes, and weight lifts. i think its stupid that everyone thinks gay means feminine. its a false stereotype.
