What happens when you put regular gas in a diesel john deere tractor?

i have NO IDEA WHAT THE OTHER PEOPLE ARE TALKING ABOUT, WHICH IS WHY I HAVE POSTED THIS 3 TIMES. STOP TALKING MECHANIC TALK AND JUST GIVE IT TO ME LIKE YOU WOULD A CHILD THAT KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT TRACTORS, IF U CANT DO THAT THEN DONT ANSWER.. read on now..

i have a john deere DIESEL 2210 tractor.. and made the mistake of i THINK putting regular gas in it, but I'm not sure if I did, does anyone know what it does if you do that?

I started it up, and it seemed to run fine except for the black smoke coming from it.. it was empty when i put maybe a 1/4 gallon in it... does diesel gas have the same smell as regular gas? can i just run it until its out of the system??? or do i need to drain it which i have no clue how to do?

Ok. I'll try to make it simple.

Obviously you know that Diesel engines should not be run with Gasoline.

This will depend on how large your tank is on that tractor, but if its like any tractor I've used, you should not cause any damage with 1/4 gallon of gasoline. It may run rough and smoke more then usual, but keep topping it up with diesel, this will lessen the % of gasoline in the fuel.

IF you feel you want to drain it, that is easy. Get yourself a siphon pump. Its very easy to use. Its a small hand pump with 2 hoses. Put one in the tank, and one in an empty container. Pump it until you remove all the fuel and it is in the container. I'm sure you do burning like we do, so you can use the fuel you remove for that.

Good luck, if you need any more advice or have questions, feel free to ask. jonathansauceda@ymail.com

If all you put into it was 1/4 gallon then you didn't do any harm if you just fill it with diesel the rest of the way till the tank is full. The tractor will almost always blow black smoke when you start it. Usually farm diesel has a red dye in it and diesel that you buy at the service station has no dye in it so it is clearish to yellowish. Diesel does not smell like gas, so you would definitely know that if it doesn't smell like gasoline then it is diesel. The reason they put red dye in farm Diesel is because you don't pay highway taxes on farm diesel so it is cheaper, and farmers usually fill from 300/500/1000 Gallon or larger tanks at the farm. If you are driving a truck and the Department of Transportation (DOT) happens to check it and it has red dye in it you are in a lot of trouble. However if you happen to be low on fuel and you put either diesel into your tractor it's okay it burns the same and all.

if you did put gasoline in it it wouldn't run, but as it's still running I have no idea what you put in it, I lost count of how many my tractor quit running service calls I've been on only to find a tank full of gas, the $90 dollar an hour mistake, drain the tank and bleed the system usually takes about an hour plus drive time and $25 for the disposal of the contaminated fuel. in your case just top it off with fresh fuel and hope for the best, yea it smells different.

Fill it with diesel, this way even with less than a half gallon of gas you have dilluted it to where it will be okay. In winter in the north states they sell blended diesel fuel at the pumps which is a mix with a little gas and this is so the diesel won't gel in severe cold.
