do fictional characters have souls, and if so can one communicate with them?

I'm very interested in the variety of responses I'll get. Religiously minded responses may benefit some but will be totally wasted on yours truly, just FYI

Well, if they were made into figures then yes. According to the Japanese, if you give an item your love for many years then the item will have a soul made from your love. That's why some village burn all of their old toys when they are 10 or 15.
To communicate with them... I'm not sure because if you toss them out then they become a yokai. So I guess you can.

I love this question!

I believe the characters in a book or movie are as real as the person who cares about them. I have daydreamed about many a character, Legolas from LOTR he does not take a ship into the undying lands but stays with Aragorn after he has become King. I have had many adventures with them and have felt them alive with a soul and all.

I know this may not be the answer you are looking for but felt compelled to answer it.

I also grieve for a beloved character death.

Very interesting question. Makes you think. I suppose you could say no because they don't "really" exist. But then again... I'll try not to get confusing here. The only way we perceive the world is with our five senses, our minds. If one can imagine a character in their mind, then maby in a sense their real, thus having souls. (?)

uh they never existed to begin with love
therefore do not have souls to contact.
very sorry.
