Why is the word "I" capitalized?

I don't know of any other language which capitalizes the equivalent pronoun, do you? And in Englsh, we don't capitalize the other pronouns.

My guess: The need to capitalize "i" arose from writing in script. While reading manuscripts, there was probably a need to distinguish it easily from the "a", the only other single-letter (and frequently used) word in the English language.

I'm just sayin'...
